#TheAssistants

Coaches Clinic

September 29th, 2019

I had the pleasure of returning to my hometown of NYC and speak at the inaugural #Assistants Coaches clinic powered by Team Footprintz. This event was loaded with some of the brightest up and coming assistant coaches in basketball. (Not even speaking about myself).

The number of gems that were shared in St. Francis Prep Gym that morning was unbelievable. I covered “skill development & preparing for the next level.” For those wondering the next level is whatever level is next for you in your playing or coaching journey.

Some key takeaways from the presentation

  1. There are 5 basic areas of skill I focus on in development

    1. Ball Control (So much more than just handling)

    2. Passing

    3. Finishing

    4. Shooting

    5. IQ

  2. If you are a Coach, evaluate the basic skill of your players, if they are lacking in the areas above, prioritize skill development in your practice.

  3. Teach skills in sequence or series. It makes it easier for players to understand reads and options.

It’s crazy to think years ago I was playing HS playoff games in this very gym, now I’m presenting to fellow Coaches. God is good! Huge thank you to Mark Williams & the Footprintz fam for the amazing opportunity to grow the game.

Until Next time.
